Revising for More Air, Illumination, Hospitality
Foote Gallery, Loveland Museum
“My heart keeps open house,” wrote Theodore Roethke in his poem “Open House.”
How do we open the house, the rooms, of a poem? How do we open the mind, and heart, that wrote it?
If, when you draft, you’re more allegiant to your thoughts and feelings than to words and silence, if you find words to fit what you mean to say rather than allow language to evoke more language, to discover what can be said, this workshop promises to expand your poem-making practice.
We will test-drive questions and strategies that address the global and local locks in our poems so that they are deeper, truer, more artfully generous expressions of what we know, don’t know, didn’t know we know!
Bring a few of your poems (accessible on a laptop or printed) that you feel are finished or that you’ve taken as far as you can; you will work on these during the day. Sample poems by other (anonymous) writers will also be available for you to work with if you prefer.
And you can feel comfortable with the day if you would rather generate new writing, as some prompts will be offered (and you can revise your freshest work!).
Registration in advance is recommended, but walk-ins welcome!
This event is FREE, with a suggested donation of $10-$15 at the door
Light refreshments will be served; bring a bagged lunch if you like.
