About

Loveland Poet Laureate

Mission Statement

Because we believe in the power of poetry to enrich, uplift, and express the lives of people in our community, the Loveland Poet Laureate Program advocates for literacy, literature, and poetry to a wide and diverse population in Loveland and beyond and works to increase appreciation of reading, writing, and listening to poetry.

Therefore, our Loveland Poet Laureate Program has the following goals:
  • To increase access to poetry and poets in Loveland and our northern Colorado community
  • To encourage local poets and aspiring poets by offering poetry readings and writing workshops to the public
  • To increase our poetry outreach to diverse audiences including elders, youth, children, and underserved or marginalized populations
  • To increase community participation in poetry by presenting programs that include an open microphone along with featured poets, storytellers, and musicians
  • To introduce poets from outside our area to our community
  • To engage young people with poetry through contests, workshops, and other opportunities to share their poetry
  • To collaborate with public organizations such as the Loveland Museum, The Rialto Theater and the Loveland Public Library to present unique creative events
  • To maintain and expand partnerships with other poetry organizations in northern Colorado
