In this generative workshop, Loveland’s first Poet Laureate, Veroncia Patterson, will examine the life and writing of José Olivarez.

Participants will learn about Olivarez's processes and style and have opportunities to write their own poems inspired by his themes, voice, or style.

José Olivarez, the son of Mexican immigrants, grew up in Calumet City, South Chicago. His education on the streets and in the halls of Harvard (where he earned his BA) have enabled him to connect with many contemporary youths and bathe all readers in a reality of life in Latinx America.
