Poetry Workshop led by Melissa Huff - "Beyond Description: the Natural World as Point of Departure"
Join us for this generative workshop as we look together at the many ways poets use nature as a jumping-off point. For some poets, it leads them to lament the current threats to nature, while for others the natural world leads to personal stories, or connections with ancestors. It can lead us to explore lessons to be learned from nature, to explore the realm of spirit, or to express wonder and awe.
Ultimately, writing about the natural world helps us learn something about the human experience. “Because nature is not a place to visit. Nature is who we are.” - Ada Limón
You will have opportunity both to generate new material or new directions from old material. Feel free to bring poems you’re working on that include some description of nature.
