Melissa Mitchell Encounters Ocean Vuong

melissa mitchell photoMelissa Mitchell, the 2024-2026 Fort Collins Poet Laureate (melissamitchellpoetry.com) explores the poetry of Vietnamese American poet Ocean Vuong (oceanvuong.com). The event will take place on December 6, 2025 from Noon to 2:00 p.m. in the Gertrude Scott room of the Loveland Public Library. In addition to learning about Vuong and his poetry, attendees will have an opportunity to write during the event.

Vuong is the author of the poetry collections Time is a Mother, a finalist for the Griffin prize, and Night Sky with Exit Wounds, a New York Times Top 10 Books and winner of the T.S. Eliot Prize. The Ruth Lilly fellow from the Poetry Foundation, Vuong’s honors include a fellowship from The Academy of American Poets and the Pushcart Prize.

This is the first in the 2025/2026 Loveland Poet Laureate Program Encountering a Poet Series.


Two other events will be held in early 2026:
  • January 3, Camile Dungy’s work will be presented by Loveland poet Celia Turner
  • 7 February local poet Mark Sanchez will guide the attendees through the poetry of Richard Hugo.
